  Mark your calendar for a weekly Tuesday evening ride in Springbank! Specific ride details and registration will be posted/opened at the start of each month.

  Distance: 50 km

  Pace:  25-30 kph average speed, with faster pace as the summer progresses. 

  Elevation Gain: 500 m

  This is a weekly ride in Springbank, focused on scenic routes, hill training, and intervals where we crank up the intensity. 

  For advanced/experienced road riders -- must be comfortable with paceline riding as a group.
  

  Average speed refers to the overall speed for the ride, including hills. We usually finish 50 km in under 2 hours. 
  

  To keep it interesting we ride a different route each week!

  Parking spot is the Eden Brook Funeral Home, off Lower Springbank Road. 24223 Township Rd 242, Calgary, AB T3Z 3K2 (see route map for exact location).
  

  Newcomers welcome, however please contact the coordinator in advance if you are unsure about your skill or fitness level for the ride.

  There will be good company and a social atmosphere.

  Details:

  We are as ready as we ever will be this time of year for the classic ride up the Elbow River on Highway 66 to Forget Me Not Pond. We run this ride before the Elbow Falls gate opens to vehicles May 15.

  This version ride starts at Bragg Creek Provincial Park (NOT the community centre in Bragg Creek), heads up Route 66 to Forget-me-not Pond.

  Limited stops, no sweep - we will regroup at key milestones (Summit). We will stop at the Forget-me-Not Pond day use area to soak in the scenery of the pond and to enjoy our packed lunches.

  At Bragg Creek Prov Park there are parking spots, washrooms, grass and picnic tables here for our enjoyment and relaxation after the ride. We will have a tailgate party afterwards.  Bring a lawn chair and refreshment!

  Safety:

  The road is closed at Elbow Falls to the end and there is generally no cell service. 

  Be prepared for self-support. Bring a pump, patch kit, tools, spare tubes, etc.

  The weather at Forget-Me-Not Pond is often cooler and the descents are long. Bring sufficient clothing. Layers are best including wind/rain jacket.

  Steep descents. Watch for gravel on the shoulders. You may use the lane where the road is closed to traffic.

   Limited stops - lunch at the top (either/or first and second lunch) 

  Elevation Gain: 1,700 m

  Description:  Because once is not enough... this ride ascends the highest paved road in Canada twice! An epic route, climbing the pass from both directions, starting from the North side. The whole ride is above the winter gate, with no cars on the road until June 15.

  Please come prepared with clothing for changeable mountain weather conditions. We will be gaining significant elevation -- even on a nice day, it will be colder higher up and the long descent can be very chilly. As the entire route is closed to cars, make sure you are self-sufficient with all the food, water, and emergency supplies required for a long day. 

  Parking: Start from Pocaterra in Peter Lougheed Park -- it's a nice spot for a tailgate social after the ride.

  ROAD RIDE - LEVEL: Intermediate-Advanced

  Description:  Enjoy the scenery on Highway 40, and ascend the highest paved road in Canada from the North Side. About half the ride is above the winter gate, with no cars on that section of the road (shown on map). The map attached shows the start at Wedge Pond but to confirm the start point is Evan Thomas Rec Area which is the turnoff on the left before Wedge.

  Please come prepared with clothing for changeable mountain weather conditions. We will be gaining significant elevation -- even on a nice day, it will be colder higher up and the long descent can be very chilly. 

  Parking: Start from Evan Thomas day use area -- it's a nice spot for a tailgate social after the ride.

  This is a shortened version of the gate to gate.  All of the ride is free of vehicle traffic.

  If bad weather, this ride has an alternate for Friday June 14. 

  Starting at the North Gate this is an out and back riding to and over the summit to Mist Creek Day use area. NO sweep.

  Enjoy the scenery on Highway 40, and ascend the highest paved road in Canada from the North Side as well as the South Side which also means fun descents on both sides.

  Please come prepared with clothing for changeable mountain weather conditions (rain and/or headwind) We will be gaining significant elevation -- even on a nice day, it will be colder higher up and the descent can be very chilly.

  Bring your camera because we will stop at some of the best viewpoints.
