Jasper to Banff Road Cycling

288km in 4 Days Cycling (Plus 1/2 Day Driving to Jasper)

Cost: $450 / Member

Coordinator: Mike Sekella

This is one of the most spectacular mountain rides in the world. It parallels the Continental Divide, and passes three large glaciers, the Athabasca waterfalls, and the alpine Peyto Lake. Wildlife sightings are common, if not almost expected.

Day One – Tuesday,August 27th: We will leave Calgary at 1:00 pm and have dinner in Jasper,  staying at the new Jasper Hostel opening this spring.  It looks much nicer than the old one, and is right in Jasper. Check it out here:

Day Two – Wednesday, August 28th: Today we cycle 90km with stops at Athabasca Falls, Sunwapta Lodge and falls then on to Beauty Creek Hostel.

Day Three – Thursday, August 29th: Today we cycle 56km with stops at the Icefield Center, hike up to Parker Ridge then on to Ramparts Hostel.

Day Four – Friday, August 30th: Today we cycle 70km with stops at Mistaya Canyon, the Summit and Petro Lake, Num-Ti-Jah lodge then on to the Mosquito Creek Hostel

Day Five – Saturday, August 31st: Today we cycle 85km stopping in Lake Louise and on to Banff along the 1A drive back to Calgary.

Due to lack of budget transportation as we have used in the past, we will be using two or three vehicles with divers taking turns leap-frogging ahead.

This trip will require one or two registrants who can bring personal vehicles with the ability to carry multiple bicycles, and are comfortable letting others drive their vehicle. (Those registrants will receive a discounted rate as well as reimbursed for fuel costs) We will have a rental cargo van to carry luggage and coolers, as well as some bikes. We have done this in the past with no problems.

Due to up front costs which remain the same regardless of number of participants, The event will only proceed with the full 8 members.

Cost includes 4 nights accommodation at the hostels, and transportation (for those not bringing vehicles). Also included is a the opportunity for a shower after the second day of cycling. We will have a room at Saskatchewan Crossing that we can use to all rotate through the shower!
