Signal Hill and Mount Royal 43
Coordinator: Peter Bradbury
The title of this ride takes its name from the two 80m. hills we climb. We want exercise don’t we? But we will take the necessary rests.
The ride describes a circle around South Central Calgary. Starting from North Glenmore Park, the route goes through the communities of Lakeview and Glamorgan, and after passing through the Signal Hill shopping center, climbs the hill of the same name on pathways. It crosses a bridge into Optimist Park. After that the route takes us on quiet streets through the neighborhoods of Westgate and Wildwood, before descending to the Bow River on the long Quarry Road Trail, suitable for road bikes. The route follows the river, past Downtown, into Mills Estate, where we have a sit-down lunch at the Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar. Suitably fortified, we explore Mount Royal with its chateaus and trees. We return through Altadore back to the North Glenmore Park, where refreshments will be provided overlooking the lake.
The ride will have regrouping at intervals, corner guiding if necessary, and a sweep. Bring your route tracking device for your enjoyment, and possibly to lead the ride next year.
Approach North Glenmore Park heading south along Crowchild Trail as far as you can go. Parking Area C lies around a curve, close to the Southeast corner of the park (see https://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Documents/Locations/north-glenmore-east.pdf?noredirect=1). Washrooms are found along the road west at Parking Area F. Please arrive 15 minutes before start.
