  • New York - Knickerbocker

Registration is closed

ROAD RIDE - LEVEL: Intermediate+

Coordinator: Mike Haden [ Zwift Name: K MADDEN (EVCC) ]

Distance: 23km

Pace: ~2.0 - 2.5 w/kg - plus or minus depending on the group

Elevation Gain: 366m

Paceline/drafting: Yes

Route: Knickerbocker

This route begins as a rolling, curvy introduction, providing ample opportunity to tour Central Park virtually. After a warm-up of 7-8km we tackle the New York KOM for 1.4km / 6.1% before finishing with a nice run up to the north end of the park and back.

We will use the meetup feature in-game, with "Keep Everyone Together" mode for a fun group ride.

Equipment requirements: To participate, you’ll need a smart trainer OR a “dumb” trainer with a power meter and/or speed sensor on your wheel. You also need a Zwift software subscription, and the free Discord app for live voice chat during the ride. If you are new to Zwift, please test your equipment and software and complete some solo rides before joining a group ride. Please contact the ride coordinator several days in advance if you need help (it’s really hard for us to provide significant tech support at the time of the ride). See more tips on Zwift and Discord below if these are new to you.

  • Register in the EVCC system as per a usual ride - on the ride registration, you’ll need to provide the name you use in Zwift.
  • I can only add you to the ride, a Zwift Meetup, if you ‘follow’ me in Zwift.
Using the Zwift Companion App, ‘Find Zwifters’, search for ‘K MADDEN (EVCC)’ and follow me. (K MADDEN is the pseudonym that I use on Zwift rather than Mike Haden)
  • When you’re registered, and you follow me in Zwift, I’ll add you to the Meetup and Zwift will send you a Meetup invitation in-game.
  • Using the Discord app, join the EVCC Discord Channel. We will use Discord to socialize "live" before and during the ride.
  • Join the Zwift Meetup and the Discord ride audio channel between 10:45am and 11:00am to allow time for intros and chit chat
  • The ride automatically starts on time!

Getting started in Zwift

With gyms closed and many other indoor fitness activities locked-down, there has been a huge boom in virtual riding this winter. Zwift is just one of many virtual riding platforms to choose from, turning your basement workouts into an interactive online game with thousands of other riders from around the world. It is the EVCC’s platform of choice due to its great community, group riding features, and number of users. If you’re interested in trying it out, here are some helpful resources to get you started.

Getting started with Discord

  • Discord is a messaging and group voice calling app that enables riders to interact with each other in the real world, not just through the screen. It is the app of choice for online gamers, and the standard used for Zwift events.
  • Download the app from the store for your mobile device
  • See: Getting started guide
    • Focus on how to login, join a server, use the mobile app, and use voice channels

Please note:  To cancel your registration, click on the "already registered" button, then click the "Cancel Registration" button.  For paid events, including the Golden Triangle, please contact the event coordinator.
