Calgary, Alberta, Canada
ROAD RIDE - LEVEL: Intermediate pace on an advanced route
Date/Time: Friday, June 11th 2021, 12 noon
Coordinator: Lee Sitek
Distance: 40 km
Pace: 20-23 kph overall avg, 13-17 kph avg on the main ascent
Elevation Gain: 700 m
Description: Ascend the highest paved road in Canada while the winter gate is still closed -- enjoy the scenery with no cars on the road. This is a challenging route with lots of climbing, but we will take it at an intermediate pace. Some of the group may separate on the main climb but we’ll regroup at the summit.
This can be a 4 seasons ride! Please come prepared with clothing for changeable mountain weather conditions. We will be gaining significant elevation -- even on a nice day, it will be colder higher up and the long descent can be very chilly. We will regroup at the summit and allow time for everyone to put on whatever extra clothing they want for the descent.
Parking: Parking is at Pocaterra in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (shown on map) -- it includes washrooms and it's a nice spot for a tailgate social after the ride.
Park Pass: Reminder! As of June 1, you must have a Kananaskis park pass to visit the park. See: https://www.alberta.ca/kananaskis-conservation-pass.aspx
COVID-19 safety: Please stay with your group and maintain physical distancing throughout the event. Bring a mask for moments when physical distancing may not be possible. Car-pooling with people outside your immediate household is discouraged.
