The Best of Bragg (a.k.a., A Ride to Bragg About)

Coordinator: Lyle Opseth

Road Ride:    Pace: 20-24, easy rider

Distance:  44 km

Elevation:  451 m

The theme this week is In Case You Missed It (#ICYMI)

I led this easy rider trip in July and it is time to cycle this route again now that the trees are changing colour. The green early summer colours will be replaced by the gold and red of early autumn. I have found this area can be a stunning visual sensory delight in the fall. (The trick is to guess the best day.)

First, we will explore the West Bragg Creek and Wintergreen areas starting from Bragg Creek and returning to Bragg Creek. Then we will ride the loop past Bragg Creek Provincial Park, in an easy 44 km ride.

From the community centre, we cross the bridge over the Elbow River and turn right, head towards Wintergreen and follow the lollipop at the end to return back to the bridge. Then we will ride out to West Bragg Creek and stop for a snack. On the return to Bragg Creek, we will explore the scenic lollipop of the Wild Rose Close side road. Before ending the ride at the community centre, we will do the 10 km loop past Bragg Creek Provincial Park. We will end the ride with a tailgate party or at a coffee shop depending on the weather and COVID.

I enjoy cycling the foothills around Bragg Creek and the Elbow Valley along highway 66. We will keep this ride shorter and easier and enjoy the highlights of the Bragg Creek area.
