Route description:
High River has the Highwood River running through its middle with protective berms on either side, lakes, an irrigation canal, parks, a fascinating town center, and a story to tell.
Starting from the south's Coop store, we wind along paths beside the Montrose ponds and Little Bow Park, then head east through a pleasant old part of town to the Emerson and Sunshine Lakes. Next, we travel along the long Little Bow canal and cross the Highwood river to the north side. We border Lineham Acres and follow the river on the street and a pathway as far as possible. After going around Highwood Lake, we go back to the south side of the river. We visit the town center to view the attractive shops and houses and the murals, then enter George Lane Memorial Park for lunch. We continue on the SW berm, then turn east along the 12th Avenue pathway with a breeze at our back. (Gain 45 m)
Location: Coop store, 1220 1 St. SE, High River. Arrive along Hwy 2A from the north and through High River, or along Hwy 2A from the east and Hwy 2.
Operations
- The ride will have a sweep, employ radios, and regroup at intervals. No one will be left behind.
- We will use the "tandem" (two-group) system if the participant numbers warrant it.
- Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
- Bring a mask and sanitizer in case of a flat, accident, or washroom use.
- Take your route recording device for more enjoyment and the possibility of leading this ride or a suitable variant next year.
- It will be helpful if you arrive 15 minutes before the start for bike preparation, meet and greet, and a quick safety drill.
- E-Bikes are welcome.
Notification and Registration: The system will notify all my Friday events and open them for rider registration two weeks beforehand.
Non-members are welcome as guests. They must fill out the waiver on our website under the Join Us/Guest Waiver and email it to guest@elbowvalleycc.org. Members can sponsor and register one guest. Unsponsored guests will be registered as guests of the coordinator after receipt of their waivers.
Waitlist: If you find the ride filled, you are encouraged to put your name on the waitlist. The chances are that you will replace a cancellation done automatically.
Cancellation: Suppose you are signed up and find you have to cancel. Please do so as soon as you know to leave space for someone else. Suppose it is necessary to cancel because of weather or another reason. In that case, I will notify you on this page and by Email or telephone by 8 am on the event day.
