Beacon Hill, Citadel, Royal Oak, Rocky Ridge 21 km.

Ride Level:  Urban ride, newcomers and intermediate, easy pace

Coordinator:  Peter Bradbury

Route description:

Usually, bicycle trips to Rocky Ridge come from the south, an uphill grunt. However, this ride approaches the higher reaches of Rocky Ridge from the east across the landscape, reducing the gain to 141 m.

The route is an elongated circuit mostly on pathways and quiet connecting streets, through parks and bordering ponds. It starts from the Beacon Hill shopping center, goes south across Stoney Trail, and traverses Citadel before crossing the Trail again on Country Hills Boulevard. After traveling Royal Oak, the route goes further west into Rocky Ridge and then loops north and returns east. We visit a new development of "Cube" houses. The course then goes northeast through Royal Oak, past lakes, and Royal Vista. We pick up speed with a tailwind along the 112 Avenue path, view the city, and arrive back at the finish.

Location: Beacon Hill Shopping Center, at the north end, near Canadian Tire. The center is northeast of the Stoney Trail and Sarcee Trail intersection. Drive into the center north on Sarcee Trail.

Operations

  • The ride will have a sweep, employ radios, and regroup at intervals. No one will be left behind.
  • Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
  • Bring a mask and sanitizer in case of a flat, accident, or washroom use.
  • Take your route recording device for more enjoyment and the possibility of leading this ride or a suitable variant next year.
  • It will be helpful if you arrive 15 minutes before the start for bike preparation, meet and greet, and a quick safety drill.
  • E-Bikes are welcome.

Notification and Registration: The system will notify all my Friday events and open them for rider registration ONE week beforehand.

Non-members are welcome as guests. They must fill out the waiver on our website under the Join Us/Guest Waiver and email it to guest@elbowvalleycc.org. Members can sponsor and register one guest. Unsponsored guests will be registered as guests of the coordinator after receipt of their waivers.

Waitlist: If you find the ride filled, you are encouraged to put your name on the waitlist. The chances are that you will replace a cancellation done automatically.

Cancellation: Suppose you are signed up and find you have to cancel. Please do so as soon as you know to leave space for someone else.  Suppose it is necessary to cancel because of weather or another reason. In that case, I will notify you on this page and by Email or telephone by 8 am on the event day.

See you. Peter
