Botanical Gardens, Silver Springs, Scenic Acres, Tuscany Lakes 24

Ride Level:  Urban ride, newcomers and intermediate, easy pace

Coordinator:  Peter Bradbury

Route description:

This is an elongated circuit in the SE - NW direction towards the Tuscany Lakes and back to see the flowers in the Botanical Gardens.

We start by heading south to ride along the Silver Springs bluffs with views of the city. Next, we ascend into the Scenic Acres ravine and cross Stoney Trail into Tuscany, where we stop at its shopping center. We ride beside the Tuscany Lakes and their imposing waterfront mansions, have lunch at a scenic spot and proceed into the Blueridge open country. The gain is 208 meters, which we will accomplish with stops to rest.

The return begins on a long downward path. It crosses Stoney Trail at Schooner Landing and continues on Scurfield Drive, Scenic Acres Boulevard, and Silvergrove Drive to arrive at the botanical gardens. The Silver Springs Botanical Gardens is home to the Birthplace Forest, and 14 uniquely featured flower gardens tended by volunteers gardeners from the community.

Location: A parking lot at the east end of Silver Springs Drive bordering the Silver Springs off-leash park and a baseball diamond.  You can approach along Nose Hill Drive and drive east on Silver Springs Road and Silver Springs Boulevard.

  • The ride will have a sweep, employ radios, and regroup at intervals. No one will be left behind.
  • Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
  • Bring a mask and sanitizer in case of a flat, accident, or washroom use.
  • Take your route recording device for more enjoyment and the possibility of leading this ride or a suitable variant next year.
  • It will be helpful if you arrive 20 minutes before the start for bike preparation, meet and greet, and a quick safety drill.
  • E-Bikes are welcome.
