Cochrane River and Creeks 28 km.

Ride Level:  Urban ride, newcomers and intermediate, easy pace.

Coordinator:  Peter Bradbury

Route description:

Starting from the Cochrane Ranche Historic Site, we cycle east along the Glenbow Drive pathway and First Street and follow the Bow River. We cross a bridge to loop Riviera, continue beside the river, and visit Crawford Ranch and Bow Meadows. The one hill of the day gets us to Henry Whitfield Park, where we have lunch at picnic tables with views. Next, we ride on the Glen Bowles Trail west alongside the river, past the Midford Ponds to the West Pointe Estates, where we turn around. We speed up on Quigley Drive through West Terrace, turn back to the river, then cycle to the finish on the Riverside Park ravine. (215 m.)

Location: Cochrane Ranche historic site. Directions: The site has a large, free parking lot just off the right side of Highway 1A, a short distance short of the intersection with Highway 22. Washrooms are available here, at lunch, and at other places on the way.

Operations

  • The ride will have a co-leader, a sweep, employ radios, and regroup at intervals. No one will be left behind.
  • Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
  • Bring a mask and sanitizer in case of a flat, accident, or washroom use.
  • Take your route recording device for more enjoyment and the possibility of leading this ride or a suitable variant next year.
  • It will be helpful if you arrive 15 minutes before the start for bike preparation, meet and greet, and a quick safety drill.
  • E-Bikes are welcome.

Notification and Registration: The system will notify all my Friday events and open them for rider registration ONE week beforehand.

Non-members are welcome as guests. They must fill out the waiver on our website under the Join Us/Guest Waiver and email it to guest@elbowvalleycc.org. Members can sponsor and register one guest. Unsponsored guests will be registered as guests of the coordinator after receipt of their waivers.

Waitlist: If you find the ride filled, you are encouraged to put your name on the waitlist. The chances are that you will replace a cancellation done automatically.

Cancellation: Suppose you are signed up and find you have to cancel. Please do so as soon as you know to leave space for someone else.  Suppose it is necessary to cancel because of weather or another reason. In that case, I will notify you on this page and by Email or telephone by 8 am on the event day.

See you. Peter
