The Route: Myeloma* Canada has asked the EVCC to provide some riders to help escort their fundraising participants along the route on May 15 as ride companions.  The fund raising goals have been exceeded so the EVCC members will have no responsibility except to show up on time, ride with the group and offer encouragement.  Route marshaling, route support, pre-ride and en route refreshments and lunch (pizza at Markerville) are provided.

The route starts at the Spruce View community hall.  Spruce View is a farming community west of Innisfail, east of Caroline along Hwy 54.

After a couple kilometres on the shoulder of Hwy 54, the route swings north along newly paved Range Road 30 that climbs over a minor ridge before descending to cross the Red Deer River.  Rocky mountain vistas to the west the whole way and little to no traffic.

Cyclists enter the village of Benalto on a back road en route to the fair grounds where a rest stop with refreshments and washroom facilities awaits.

The route retraces itself south then turns east on also newly paved and very quiet  Township Road 370 which services acreages and small farms on either side.  At Range Road 21, the route turns south into the village of Markerville and the historic Markerville Creamery museum on the Red Deer River for lunch.  Pizza is provided by Myeloma Canada for the group (made at the Tivoli Café in Spruce View).  Coupons will be included to enable riders to sample the ice cream at the Creamery café.  The route back to Spruce View retraces the one into Markerville.

The easiest way to reach Spruce View from Calgary is via Hwy 2 to Innisfail then Hwy 54 to Spruce View.

The EVCC is supporting this fund raiser for Myeloma Canada through equipment loans and volunteer expertise to put on the event.   Pace will be dictated by the Myeloma Canada participant's fitness and cycling abilities.

*Myeloma is Latin for marrow tumor, a form of cancer.   Learn more about the 3 Myeloma rides and the fund raising efforts.
