Route description:

When will your next Best of Lake Louise Series ride be? When will you reschedule the ride to Peyto Lake that never happened last year? Ask no more. This is it! We've been to Emerald Lake, we've done Bow Valley Parkway (1A) to Lake Louise, and now it's Peyto Lake with views of Hector Lake and Bow Lake along the way as bonuses. We will enjoy the newly renovated day use area at Bow Summit with great views of Peyto Lake.

As part of my "Best of Lake Louise" series, we will make a journey along highway 93 to Bow Summit and then to the Peyto Lake Viewpoint. We will enjoy the beautiful view of Petyo Lake at the viewpoint while we have lunch and we will see what improvements have been made at the viewpoint. We can also stop at Bow Lake briefly and other spots with great vistas to enjoy the views. Bring a camera!

Leaving and returning to Lake Louise, we will use Village Road to the western end of Lake Louise and follow the bike path that goes over highway 1 and runs beside highway 1 and highway 93 to the park pass checkstop. This route avoids riding on highway 1 and going over the overpass and the cattle guards on each side of the overpass.

We will then follow highway 93 to/from Bow Summit and make the final steep climb up to the Peyto Lake Viewpoint.

This is an intermediate+ ride due to a combination of distance and climbing with steeper grades.

Parking and meeting spot:

There is a lesser known public parking lot behind the Husky gas bar and the nearby restaurant, across Village Road from the information centre. Do not use the Sampson Mall parking lot due to parking time limits.

Wheels roll at 9:30 am.

  • Safety:
  • Please ensure your contact info is up to date in the system before the ride -- including your cell phone number and emergency contact information.
  • Most of the route does not have cell service.
  • Be self-sufficient: bring your own tools, spare tubes, etc
  • This is bear country: consider bringing bear spray
  • Due to the distance and steep climbs, be prepared should your e-bike battery not last
