CANCELLED: I have reluctantly decided to cancel the ride. The forecast for Banff is showers in the morning probably not ending until after we start, with the sun not coming out until late in the ride The temperature will not recover much regardless. I hope to reschedule this ride in later July or August when the weather is warmer and dryer. It is a long drive for a necessary early start due to limited parking. The weather for Saturday to Monday is sunny and warm so let's enjoy some warm and dry cycling this weekend instead!

With my "Not Quite the Whole Enchilada" ride omitting Vermillion Lakes and Norway, I'm scheduling this ride to, as promised, complete the "enchilada" tour of Banff. We will to ride 1A before it opens to traffic on June 25. We will stop at Baker Creek Chalets where we will have lunch and food can be purchased before returning the way we came.

This route starts at the Banff train station, travels past Vermillion Lakes and takes the Bow Valley Parkway (highway 1A) to Baker Creek Chalets. When we arrive back in Banff, we head up Norquay, taking in the viewpoint of Banff from the lookout about 2/3rds the way up. We will stop at the top for an end-of-the-ride social (i.e., a tailgate replacement party) on the Norquay Ski Resort deck. Food may be purchased at the lodge.

Bring your camera because we will stop at some of the best viewpoints.

New Parking Location:

Banff is asking cyclists to park at the new Banff Train Station Public Parking Lot located at 327 Railway Avenue as the Fenlands Recreation Centre is open again. This is free parking, with a 9-hour limit. An earlier start time is recommended to ensure you get a spot.

To find the correct parking lot, use the east entrance on the traffic circle. (The parking lot directly in front of and going west is for overflow later in the day.) Or click on the location in the Apricot App. (Note: the GPS coordinates are correct although may not actually show the parking lot. There are signs on the east exit of the traffic circle indicating the entrance to the parking lot.)
