The 2022 Canola Fields Fondo!

Ride and Apres-ride Social

Group name: Canola Metrica Saeculum (Metric Century)

Coordinator: Lyle Opseth

Distance: 99 km

Pace: 22-25 kph - Intermediate

Elevation Gain:  858 metres

E-Bikes allowed:  Yes

IMPORTANT: New Start Time; Parking Instructions.; New Route

The route has been changed. Please update your device if you loaded the 104 km version.

Because of the warm temperatures tomorrow and the risk of late afternoon thundershowers, we are moving the start time for the 104 km ride to 10 am. We should be done the ride before the chance of any rain. I'm actually just happier starting sooner anyway. Models suggest rain may occur 5 pm onwards (30% chance).

As there is construction nearby Symons Valley Ranch and the large number of participants, please follow the parking instructions below.

First, the south entrance to SVR is closed (blocked off) so use the north entrance at the north end of the parking lot.

Park close together around the perimeter of the parking lot. Later groups will park in rows in the middle.

IGNORE the "No Parking" sign against the wall and use the area anyway. We have permission for this.

Celebrate the highlight of the 2022 cycling season, with our first Canola Fields Fondo event, offering rides of various paces and distances along the beautiful canola farmlands of rural Alberta.

Meeting place/parking:  All road rides start/finish at Symons Valley Ranch NW parking lot. See on google: https://goo.gl/maps/HPzUdRrrt1rmkjRt9

Route:

100 kilometre metric century ride starting at Symons Valley Ranch in the North of Calgary. Touring through farmlands north of Symons Valley Ranch. It is best done in late July when the Canola is in bloom.

Road surfaces: This route uses a number of secondary and tertiary roads, some with rougher pavement, however all are paved and the roads are largely quiet.

Hills: No mountainous climbs, however the rolling hills add up to 909 metres of elevation over the ride.

Rest stop: we will pass through Madden twice. The first time we will regroup at the community centre next to the golf course. We will then do a quick clockwise loop north of Madden and return to the community centre/golf course for a longer lunch break.

For a longer fast-paced route, or a a shorter easier pace on a similar route, please watch for our other Canola Fields Fondo ride postings in the calendar.

Apres-ride social: Join us after the ride for social in the parking lot of Symons Valley Ranch. Bring your own snacks, drinks and chairs. There is also The Beer Hall at Symons Valley that is awaiting our visit at their outdoor patio for food and refreshments (please ensure you have a designated driver for after, if needed)

Guests:  Guests are allowed on this ride.  Members - you can add non-member as your guest at the same time you register yourself.  The guest must fill out the waiver found on our website under Join Us/Guest Waiver,  then email this to guest@elbowvalleycc.org.
