<Cranky Anonymous Member>: Where have you been? How can I cycle your routes when you haven't posted a ride for weeks? I'll get unfit and fat. And whatever happened to that Banff ride in June that got rained out? I also want to mention that the Waiparous ride was too hot so I would like it on a cooler day. Your metric century canola ride was 98 km and wasn't 100 km. Do you know what "century" means? Next time do better; that's what I say. But with the "In Case You Missed It" week, how about running that Banff ride that got canceled? I definitely missed it since you never rescheduled it. It's soon September and I'll be forced into hibernation (or skiing) unsatisfied with the fall cycling season.

<Coordinator>: I have been busy, including vacation/trips and other non-EVCC activities and family responsibilities. So I paused for a while. And, yes, I loved riding L'Etape Edmonton so thanks for asking(?).  Now I'm back and hoping for a few more late summer and fall rides, like the Banff ride, before I switch over to cross-country skiing.

We will enjoy cycling highway 1A to Castle Junction, going up Norquay for a hill climb (the hot weather should be over so Cranky should be happy about that) and a cruise around the Banff golf course. There are great views to be had on all these sections.

The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) is again closed east of Johnston Canyon from Sept 1 to 30.

Parking: We will again meet in the parking lost just east of the train station near the porta-potties. Use the east entrance on the traffic circle. Or click on the location in the Apricot App. (Note: the GPS coordinates are correct . There are signs on the east exit of the traffic circle indicating the entrance to the parking lot.)

Safety:

  • Consider carrying bear spray
  • There are areas on 1A without cell service
  • 1A is closed to regular traffic east of Johnston Canyon so you must cycle or walk out (i.e., no Roam Bus or cars) or flag down one of the parks vehicles
  • Be self-sufficient; carry tools and be prepared to perform simple bike maintenance (especially where the road is closed to vehicles)
  • There will be no sweep. We will regroup as needed.
