<Cranky Anonymous Member>:

All these times, I have been complaining to Lyle but apparently it is you that's pulling the EVCC strings. When are we going to have any new rides, for example, Drumheller? You started "In case you missed it..." theme week but we have not had any Badlands rides yet.

I hear you are starting your Safety Campaign in the club. Safety is important, I wish every coordinator reminded us of safe riding etiquette. Also, make sure your pre-ride safety briefing mentions rattlesnakes.

<Coordinator>: Ha, finally I get a complaint too.

Dear, Anonymous. We enjoyed your shenanigans as they help us to improve the attractiveness and variety of our rides.  As per your kind request, we are posting several Badlands rides. I will definitely mention rattlesnakes. Good thing that there have only been four reported cases of rattlesnake bites in the last two decades in Drumheller. We will be safe on our bikes.

This is the Bandlands Grand Fondo route beginning in Badlands Community Facility. The roads are in great shape with smooth pavement and with little traffic. It includes a short ferry ride across the Red Deer river, then two short 12% hills, at 60km we will stop at Last Chance Saloon for snacks and hydration, ride a bit further and return.

Parking: We will start and finish at the Badlands Community Centre parking lot, the location where the annual Gran Fondo starts and finishes. See the map.

Apres-ride social: Join us after the ride for social in Bikes and Bites Sandwich place, meeting up with the intermediate paced group.

The Last Chance Saloon and Hoodoo Hydration Centre are marked on the maps as points-of-interest ("i")

Safety notes:

  • When passing on the downs or ups, please check for traffic, signal and notify the riders nearby that you are passing.
  • When/if riding in a paceline, please be smooth, do not cross the wheels and point at the road hazards.
  • We will regroup after the two big hills.
  • No rattlesnakes or ghosts are expected to keep up. They are watching Lyle's group.
