Distance: 140 km

Pace:  25+ on the flats, 10-16 climbs, 40-60+ descents

Elevation Gain: 1,550 m

E-bikes Allowed: No

This will be an epic day in the mountains for those who dare tackle the challenge -- Some of the best scenery the Rockies has to offer. 

Minimal traffic as the 1A between Banff and Johnson Canyon is still closed to vehicles as part of Parks Canada's cycling experience pilot program  (re-opening June 25). Also Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles and only open to scheduled shuttle traffic.

Due to the length of the ride, we will aim for fewer/shorter stops to keep the group moving. Don't worry, we will have time for photos at Moraine Lake-Valley of the Ten Peaks and the classic vista of Morant's curve.

Safety elements:

  • Be sure to bring layers of warm clothing as weather can be very variable in the mountains. 
  • Remember there is no cell service on parts of this route -- be prepared food, water, snacks etc.  
  • be prepared to fix a flat…spare tube, pump/C02 and tools
