Wentworth, Cougar Ridge, Christie, Aspen, West Springs 25

Ride Level:  Urban ride, newcomers and intermediate, easy pace.

Coordinator:  Peter Bradbury

Route description:

This new route is a crazy figure eight on some of southern Calgary's highest elevations, yet there are no hills to climb.

Starting at Wentworth, we travel along a path in a ravine to Cougar Ridge for city views. We turn east to Paskapoo, past several lakes, and ride through West Springs. Next is some attractive pathway riding west on the Bow Trail and southeast along the Strathcona ravine. We cycle through upscale Christie Park to reach Aspen Woods for a grand tour of newly built, lavish, architecturally exciting mansions and head to the finish on a pathway for another ride through West Springs. (Gain 85 m)

Location: Coop store parking lot, 917 85th Street SW. Best access on Bow Trail.

Operations

  • The ride will have a co-leader, a sweep, employ radios, and regroup at intervals. No one will be left behind.
  • Bring lunch, snacks, and water.
  • Take your route recording device for more enjoyment and the possibility of leading this ride or a suitable variant next year.
  • It will be helpful if you arrive 15 minutes before the start for bike preparation, meet and greet, and a quick safety drill.
  • E-Bikes are welcome.

Notification and Registration: The system will notify all Friday events and open them for rider registration ONE week beforehand.

Non-members are welcome as guests. They must fill out the waiver on our website under the Join Us/Guest Waiver and email it to guest@elbowvalleycc.org. Members can sponsor and register one guest. Unsponsored guests will be registered as guests of the coordinator after receipt of their waivers.

Waitlist: If you find the ride filled, you are encouraged to put your name on the waitlist. The chances are that you will replace a cancellation done automatically.

Cancellation: Suppose you are signed up and find you have to cancel. Please do so as soon as you know to leave space for someone else.  Suppose it is necessary to cancel because of weather or another reason. In that case, I will notify you on this page and by Email or telephone by 8 am on the event day.

See you. Peter
