Our annual Highwood Pass ride series

New dates: May 31 to June 10, 2025


Hustle up Highwood Pass in June before the winter gates open to traffic. 

There will be multiple rides from the South Gate, leading to the summit of the highest paved road in Canada at 2,206 m.

G7 Summit in Kananaskis

Due to the G7 Summit being held in Kananaskis June 15-17, there are security access restrictions that affect our usual events.

  • Highway 40 over Highwood Pass will be closed to vehicle traffic up to and including June 20 and will open June 21.
  • Cyclists will not be able to access Highwood Pass from the north, effective immediately.
  • Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to access the Highwood Pass via the south. However, cyclists will be turned around at the top of Highwood Pass just north of the Ptarmigan Cirque Parking Lot and required to head back south.

Mountain weather!

Rides are weather-dependent as we often find cold, rain, and/or snow awaits us on the pass. Some coordinators may wait for a "weather window" and post last minute rides for fairweather riders. Many intrepid riders do not let the weather stop us however! 


Tailgate socials: Bring your own lawn chair, blankets and snacks for socializing after the ride. The store at Highwood Junction will likely be open for refreshments as well. Last year they opened in time to cater to the hundreds of cyclists doing this ride.
