Banff to Lake Louise (can be considered Fondo training if you like), Adv/Int, 117km, 950m, PattyWest

         Banff to Lake Louise on Scenic Bow Valley              Parkway (hwy 1A)
It’s that time of year again when the Bow Valley Parkway is closed to vehicle traffic.

         Difficulty:  strong intermediate ++

Pace: 25+ kph, intermediate++, no sweep

Distance: 117km, advanced

Elevation Gain: 946 m (intermediate+/advanced)

Start: 10:00am wheels rolling, please arrive 10-15 minutes early

Parking: east of Banff Train Station, 327 Railway Ave. (see below)

Route description:

This is an out-and-back adventure, starting from Banff and cycling along the entire Bow Valley Parkway (1A) to Lake Louise town site that is closed to vehicle traffic!

We will stop for a lunch break at Lake Louise.  There are a number of eateries open if you wish to purchase a lunch.  Most popular is Laggan’s Mountain Bakery.

There will be a very brief stop out and back at Castle Junction to regroup. 

No sweep, limited stops.

This is meant to be a longer intermediate pace with few stops, the major stop being Lake Louise town site (mall) for lunch and very brief stops at Castle Junction.

If you run into trouble, you can use the Roam Bus to return to Banff.

PLEASE do not park at the lot infront of the train station. We will meet in the main parking area to the east of the traffic circle.

Safety elements:

• Consider carrying bear spray
• There are short areas on 1A without cell service
• Be self-sufficient; carry tools and be prepared to perform simple bike maintenance - flat tire
• There will be no sweep. There is a brief stop at Castle Junction in both directions.
