It was a beautiful day with some of the warmest temperatures this spring to enjoy a 70 km loop through the foothills southwest of Calgary. The cool spring meant that the leaves on the trees were starting to come out, a bit later than most years.

Fourteen cyclists enjoyed the spring colours, the great views of the valleys from the higher points, the still snow-capped mountains to the west on quiet weekday roads.

We had a snack stop at Kew or, rather, the former Kew on 2338 Dr W (Township road 204A) where a sign commemorates the former hamlet and its economic significance to the area (see photo, courtesy Ernie E.) (Other photos are courtesy Mei W.)

This is a route worth repeating, especially in the fall when the trees adopt their golden colours. With construction on several roads in this area this summer, cycling options in this area will be limited over the next few months.
