  Let’s add to the classic ride up the Elbow River on Highway 66 to Forget Me Not Pond by stopping for ICE CREAM at Ida May’s Creamery.

  This version ride starts at Bragg Creek Provincial Park (NOT the community centre in Bragg Creek), heads up Route 66 to Forget-me-not Pond.

  Limited stops, no sweep - we will regroup at key milestones (Summit). We will stop at the Forget-me-Not Pond day use area to soak in the scenery of the pond and to enjoy the view.

  At Bragg Creek Prov Park there are parking spots, washrooms in the second half of the lot.  Please drive into there to meet the group.  Also less dust on your car in there.

  On the return we will go past the Provincial Park to Ida May’s for ice cream provided by the “Club”.  Then we will ride back to the park approx 2km to the cars.

  Safety:

  The road is open to traffic but on a Tuesday it will be relatively light.

  Be prepared for self-support. Bring a pump, patch kit, tools, spare tubes, etc.

  Its going to be a warm day ensure you have 2 bottles of water,

  Steep descents. Watch for gravel on the shoulders. 

  There are several cattle guards to ride over.  They do have a strip to stay on to make it easier crossing them.

  Ride into history with a visit to the Icelandic Village of Markerville, and on to the Danish Museum in Dickson, with an optional gourmet Danish buffet.

  Route:  We ride from Spruce View north and east to Markerville, a town of historical sites including the CREAMERY where an ice cream snack is optional.

  We then backtrack south and cross the Dickson Dam at the tip of Glennifer Lake for a photo opp. 

  Form there we make a brief stop at the Dickson Store, then on to the DANISH CANADIAN MUSEUM.

  
  

  At the Museum we are treated to a lovely garden setting with a pond, various building, and even a replica of a Viking ship.  Those who wish can have lunch from the SAGA CAFE MENU. We may book a buffet lunch, which includes a beverage and desert, for about $20-25, so please let me know when you register if you want to participate in the buffet, order for yourself, or bring your own lunch.

  After lunch it is a short ride back to Spruce View.

  As we are riding on country roads, a bright flashing tail light is recommended.

  This is a scenic ride following the Ghost River best ridden on mid-weekdays when the roads are quietest.

  There is no sweep as this is an out and back ride.

  There is a snack stop on the south side of the Ghost River Bridge on Richards Road (see marker on the map). We will stop on the return from the turn around at the end of Richards Road.

  The ride will end with a tailgate party at Ghost Lake after the ride so bring your lawn chair and some post-ride recovery snacks. Some brave cyclists swim in Ghost Lake after the ride to cool off on hot days.

  Enjoy the route through De Winton, Okotoks and Dunbow from last year's hayride fondo.

  We ride towards De Winton, head towards Granary Road (i.e., Road to Nepal, on to Okotoks and return to the start via roads cycled in the classic Dunbow 77 ride.

  Washrooms and water can be obtained in Okotoks, such as at 7-11 at Milligan Dr. and 32nd St (45 km). There are nearby parks for a lunch stop. There are also washrooms at Granary Road Farmer's Market and park (16.5 km).

  After the ride, we can enjoy refreshments at Stockman's Lounge or a tailgate party.

  Route Description:

  We will ride west, then up the "Old Road to Nepal." Just before the top we go left and climb some more to the Leighton Art Center, where we break for lunch.
  

  The view from the top, barring clouds or smoke, is amazing! There is an art museum/store, and we will take time for some browsing if anyone is interested.

  
  

  There no food available at Leighton, so plan to bring your lunch.  Leighton has the only washroom along the route.

  From there we drop down a long steep road (7.5%). cross the New Road to Nepal. then descend more gradually through a lovely valley.  And finally we loop around hay fields to Dewinton and back to the start.

  Notes:

  • Some of our route is on roads with narrow or no shoulder so a bright flashing tail light is recommended.
  • Climbing gears and descending skills will be useful.
  • This map is traced for cues/prompts if you care to download to your device.  But please use an earbud or keep the sound off.

  This is a weekly ride in Springbank, focused on scenic routes, hill training, and intervals where we crank up the intensity. 

  We will kick off the season with a series of hill training workouts in April and early May. As the summer gets underway, we focus on longer routes, exploring beautiful backroads of the area.

  This ride starts at Moir Park and follows the paved pathway on the old railway right of way before returning the same way. If you decide to shorten the ride, please inform your coordinator. (We get it! There's a fondo tomorrow.)

  We will cycle new roads including Wycliffe Road through Wycliffe and St. Eugene.

  This ride starts at the Cranbrook Confederation Ball Park in Cranbrook, just east of Elizabeth Lake Lodge on Wattsville Rd. Cyclists not staying at the lodge should park at the ball diamond and cyclists staying at the lodge should just cycle to the ball diamond parking lot to meet their group.

  Choose the ride option with the distance and pace you prefer. This ride is a longer distance with a moderate/intermediate pace. 

  Join us to explore scenic roads in and around Cranbrook for a recovery ride the day after the Kootenays Fondo. The rides are paced for cyclists who need an easier "recovery" day.

  We will cycle new roads including Wycliffe Road through Wycliffe and St. Eugene, with a side trip out-and-back on Pighin Road. 

  This ride starts at the Cranbrook Confederation Ball Park in Cranbrook, just east of Elizabeth Lake Lodge on Wattsville Rd. Cyclists not staying at the lodge should park at the ball diamond and cyclists staying at the lodge should just cycle to the ball diamond parking lot to meet their group.

  Elevation Gain: 540 m (430 m option)

  You can choose to ride either the full 60 km ride or shorten it to 50 km. Faster cyclists will "self-guide".

  Before returning to Calgary on Monday, join us to cycle Wardner Fort Steele Road.You may have missed this segment of the Kootenays Fondo if you did not cycle the full 152 km route.

  The start of the ride is the Fort Steele Heritage Town parking lot, just off highway 93.

  From the Fort Steele Heritage Town, we ride to the Wardner Fort Steele Road and follow it to the Kootenay Highway (93) and return the way we came. Riders wanting a shorter 50 km ride can turn around at the Bull River Inn.
